Can Minimalism Help with Clarity?

Ever looked around in your home, apartment or office space and felt the weight of everything in sight was going to give you a panic attack? It’s real easy to feel suffocated with a clutter of items that impede you from either doing your daily tasks or even encouraging you to give up because it’s too much. I had these issues with some books I had. I made a purchase at a garage sale not too long ago, and the seller sold a lot of Daniel Silva books which I’m a huge fan of. I placed the books (it was 4 of them) on my nightstand since I wanted to encourage myself to read more before going to bed versus using my phone. While I did start reading the first book, I realized that I was still resorting to my old habits of using my phone, and just looking at the stack of books discouraged me from reading.  So the question for today is, if we embrace minimalism, will it help us gain clarity and focus? The answer will not surprise you. So I decided to hide the other books while I tried to make p...

4 East Ways To Manage Stress

Pen with text reading inhale and exhale

Let’s face it. Stress is something everyone has experienced at some point. In today’s faced-paced world, stress has almost become a pesky companion. School and work deadlines, finances,  and personal obligations are always vying for how they can out-stress us.

Here’s the thing. While we certainly cannot remove stress from our lives, or live in a world that’s void of stress, we can learn to manage it. That’s where stress-management strategies come in. They’re one of the best ways to help manage the stress that comes from just living, with resilience and ease.

Let’s look at some easy ways you can get started on managing your stress:

Breathing Exercises: When things start to seem too much (school, personal or work related) breathing becomes rapid, which usually makes tension worse. The best way to activate the body’s response to calming our nervous system is to work on deep breathing exercises , for example diaphragmatic breathing (the 4-7-8 technique). You can simply just look for a quiet space, close your eyes, and concentrate on taking deep breaths as your belly expands. Try holding it for a few seconds and slowly releasing it through your mouth.Clear your mind, and repeat the process a couple of times until you feel calmed and centered.

Muscle Relaxation: This one involves tensing and relaxing a variety of muscle groups in your body and releasing the tension in order to promote relaxation. You can start on your shoulder for example, tensing them as much as you can for a few seconds and then releasing the tension and allowing the muscle to relax. Move on to the next muscle group and repeat the process.

Creating Boundaries: One of the most powerful words you can say to protect your peace is no. Sometimes, we want to be of help to everyone and forget our own mental and emotional well-being. Learn to create boundaries, and create parameters between your professional and personal life. If you don’t it can create an increase in burnout, but when you create boundaries you promote your own self care. And many times it doesn’t just come in physical forms but also supportive. Just listening to a relative or friend about their day can give you stress.

Be Compassionate: Lastly, remember to think of yourself, and be kind to yourself when the going gets tough. What does that look like? It means treating yourself kindly and not beating yourself up for something you did wrong. You’re not perfect, no one is. And if you embrace the imperfect moments, and acknowledge your feelings without being too harsh, you can spend more time improving versus thinking of the past. Also, do things that bring you joy or happiness.

By incorporating these stress management techniques into your daily life , they can help you cultivate inner pieces, manage stress, and navigate life with ease. Remember, this isn’t about avoiding difficult situations but more about developing the skills to cope with them.  So, take a deep breath, take some time in the day for self-care and remember that creating boundaries can help you find peace.
