Can Minimalism Help with Clarity?

Ever looked around in your home, apartment or office space and felt the weight of everything in sight was going to give you a panic attack? It’s real easy to feel suffocated with a clutter of items that impede you from either doing your daily tasks or even encouraging you to give up because it’s too much. I had these issues with some books I had. I made a purchase at a garage sale not too long ago, and the seller sold a lot of Daniel Silva books which I’m a huge fan of. I placed the books (it was 4 of them) on my nightstand since I wanted to encourage myself to read more before going to bed versus using my phone. While I did start reading the first book, I realized that I was still resorting to my old habits of using my phone, and just looking at the stack of books discouraged me from reading.  So the question for today is, if we embrace minimalism, will it help us gain clarity and focus? The answer will not surprise you. So I decided to hide the other books while I tried to make p...

Negativity Holds You Back

Man stressed

Have you ever compared yourself to someone else, or someone on social media? Maybe you dwell on something you said in the past or something you did is still haunting you today. Negativity can take a toll on who we are. However, by cultivating positive thoughts and inner peace, we can experience happiness, resilience, and fulfillment in life.

Acknowledge Negative Patterns

The first important step in letting go of all the negativity is becoming aware of your thoughts and the patterns that lead to them. Pay close attention to when negative thoughts start to creep in and observe at how they impact your behavior and mood. Is it when you scroll through social media? Perhaps it’s a certain someone? By shinning the light on patterns that lead to negative thoughts, you can start to break free from them and create spaces for more positivity.

Give Yourself A Pat On The Back

Get in the habit of always being compassionate with yourself, especially when you’re going to tough times. Instead of beating yourself up about past mistakes, be empathetic and offer yourself the same compassion you would with a friend. Mistakes are going to happen; you wouldn’t be alive or really LIVING if you didn’t make errors.

Remember Mindfulness?

I’ve spoken ad nauseum on this blog about the importance of mindfulness, but here a quick reminder. Mindfulness is a great antidote to negativity. It grounds us in the moment and instills clarity and calmness. When you incorporate mindfulness such as mediation into your daily routine, you can quiet out the noise or negative emotions and thoughts. The next time you get frustrated or angry take a moment to meditate and come back to the situation. We can also say things we’ll later regret in the heat of the moment, but when we pause and take step into a moment of clarity, we filter out those negative reactions and thoughts.

Be Grateful

Being grateful is such a powerful too when we are trying to shift out of a negative space. Try to instill a routine where you give thanks for what you have, and reflect on the things you’re grateful for. It can be anything. The luck you had to witness a solar eclipse, or just experiencing new music from your favorite artist. Cultivate a sense of appreciation, and I promise you it will help drown out negative thoughts or dark emotions.

Positivity Begets Positivity

There’s a saying “you are what you eat” and I believe it also applies to our behaviors as in “you are what you surround yourself with.” If you are in an environment or you have friends who are constantly negative, you will find negativity in almost any direction you look. Look for supportive relationships that encourage you to be better than yesterday. By intentionally surrounding yourself with a positive atmosphere, you will find it nourishes and reinforces positivity wherever you go.

Letting go of negativity and creating inner peace is an ongoing journey that requires patience, self-awareness, and practice. But when you put these strategies into your daily life, you can let go of negativity, embrace positivity, and experience greater peace and fulfillment in life. Remember that you deserve to live a life filled with joy, love, and abundance—so let go and let peace in.
